HIFEM Body Sculpting

HIFEM body sculpting is a non-surgical, non-invasive way to shape the body. It uses high-intensity focused electromagnetic (HIFEM) energy to trigger strong muscle contractions. The treatment is designed to reduce fat and build muscle, and it has shown very impressive clinical results.

A single 30-minute session delivers a workout equivalent to about 20,000 sit-ups, producing results that would normally take an extensive amount of exercise. It tones and contours the abdomen, arms, buttocks and thighs, and there is no downtime.

What it is and how it works

The device uses high-intensity focused electromagnetic (HIFEM) waves to make the targeted muscles contract at a rapid pace, without allowing them to relax between contractions. These are called supramaximal contractions.

These supramaximal contractions act as a catalyst. They force the targeted area to respond by burning fat and building more muscle. Just as with regular exercise, the body naturally responds by rebuilding the tissue, which results in muscles that are firmer and stronger. Think of it as a workout in turbo mode: the powerful contractions create a highly effective metabolic reaction, so every session works both on fat burning and on muscle building.

What it is for

  • Toning and building muscle in the treated area

  • Reducing fat in the treated area

  • More definition of the abdominal muscles

  • Lifting and shaping the buttocks

  • Firming and contouring the arms and thighs

The areas we treat are:

  • Abdomen

  • Upper arms

  • Buttocks

  • Thighs

Who it is for

Adults in good shape who want more definition of their abs or a lift of the buttocks are ideal candidates. The treatment is especially well suited to people who work out but just can't seem to get a six-pack or a perky derriere. Good candidates are already physically active and follow a healthy diet and lifestyle.

Who should not have it

Before treatment, your doctor checks for the following possible contraindications:

  • Metal or electronic implants in the treatment area

  • Cardiac pacemakers

  • Implanted defibrillators

  • Implanted neurostimulators

  • Drug pumps

  • Malignant tumors

  • Hemorrhagic (bleeding) conditions

  • Epilepsy

  • Recent surgical procedures

Pregnant and breastfeeding women should not have HIFEM body sculpting.

Women who are close to their period may find that it comes sooner, or that cramping is stronger, after treatment. For a comfortable experience, we recommend not having treatment at this time of the month.

The treatment

Each session takes 30 minutes, which makes it a quick and convenient option for busy schedules.

  • Consultation. Your treatment starts with a consultation to discuss your fitness goals and to decide whether HIFEM body sculpting is the right option for you.

  • Preparation. Depending on the area being treated, you lie down or sit comfortably, and the applicator is placed on the target area.

  • The session. The device emits HIFEM pulses that cause rapid muscle contractions, equivalent to doing thousands of sit-ups or squats in a short time.

  • What you feel. You will feel intense muscle contractions throughout the session. The treatment is generally well tolerated, and many people find it comfortable.

A minimum of 4 sessions is recommended. Sessions can be scheduled daily, every other day, or 2–3 times per week; the interval is flexible to fit your preferences and schedule. The number of sessions is always set by your doctor after an in-person assessment, and several treatments can be combined on the same day, as your doctor advises.

Results are typically seen after the first or second session. Over the following weeks you will notice more muscle tone and less fat in the treated area.

Before and aftercare

There is no downtime: you can go back to your daily activities immediately after the session.

To maintain your results, periodic maintenance sessions may be suggested, together with a healthy lifestyle.

The science

Muscle gain and fat reduction

HIFEM technology is FDA cleared for treating the abdomen, buttocks, arms and thighs, among other areas. Some patients notice increased muscle tone of the abs one day after treatment. A roughly 16% increase in muscle mass and a 20% reduction in fat were measured 2 months after the 4th treatment.

Frequently asked questions

How long does a treatment take?

Each session lasts 30 minutes.

How many sessions do I need?

A minimum of 4 sessions is recommended, and your doctor sets the final number after assessing you. Periodic maintenance sessions may be suggested afterwards.

How long does it take to see results?

Typically results are seen after the first or second session, and some patients notice firmer abs as early as the day after treatment. The measured gains in muscle and loss of fat (about 16% and 20%) were recorded 2 months after the 4th treatment.

How often can I have a session?

Sessions can be scheduled daily, every other day, or 2–3 times per week, depending on your preferences and schedule.

Does it hurt?

You will feel strong muscle contractions, but the treatment is generally well tolerated, and many people find it comfortable.

Is there any downtime?

No. You can resume your normal activities straight away.

Can I have it during my period?

We recommend avoiding treatment when you are close to menstruation, as your period may come sooner or cramping may be stronger.
