EM-Thera Pelvic Chair

EM-Thera is an advanced, non-invasive treatment that strengthens the pelvic-floor muscles using high-intensity focused electromagnetic (HIFEM) technology. You simply sit on the chair, fully clothed, for 30 minutes while the electromagnetic energy exercises your pelvic floor for you.

The treatment is ideal for people with urinary incontinence or weakened pelvic muscles, and for anyone looking for better core stability. It supports bladder control and pelvic strength, and there is no downtime.

What it is and how it works

EM-Thera stimulates the deep pelvic-floor muscles with thousands of supramaximal contractions in a single session, something impossible to achieve through regular exercise alone. These powerful contractions restore muscle tone and strength, providing long-term benefits for bladder control, intimate wellness and overall pelvic health.

The chair uses HI-PFM technology to produce the muscle contractions:

  • Quick: a session takes only 30 minutes.

  • Highly efficient: approximately 30,000 muscle contractions per session.

  • Equivalent to Kegels: one 30-minute session is equivalent to 8 hours of Kegel exercises.

  • Convenient and comfortable: the treatment is done with your clothes on, which reduces discomfort, gives immediate effects and puts minimal burden on the body.

The same deep contractions also work the gluteal (buttock) muscles.

What it is for

  • Urinary incontinence. Helps strengthen weakened pelvic-floor muscles, improving bladder control and reducing involuntary leakage caused by aging, childbirth or injury.

  • Bowel and bladder control. Strengthens the muscles responsible for proper regulation of urination and bowel movements, reducing urgency and incontinence.

  • Orgasm disorders. Enhances pelvic-floor muscle function to support normal sexual arousal and improve orgasmic response.

  • Erectile dysfunction. Stimulates the pelvic muscles to improve blood flow, support stronger erections and boost overall sexual confidence.

  • Chronic pelvic pain. Helps relieve persistent pelvic discomfort by strengthening the supporting muscles and improving circulation in the pelvic area.

  • Lower back pain. Provides core and pelvic stabilization, which helps relieve lower back pain caused by weak pelvic muscles, poor posture or underlying medical conditions.

  • Non-surgical buttock lift. HIFEM stimulation contracts the gluteal muscles, lifting and toning the buttocks without surgery, injections or downtime.

  • Muscle strength and definition. The deep supramaximal contractions help build and strengthen the glutes, improving firmness, shape and overall muscle tone.

Who it is for

EM-Thera is suitable for women and men with urinary incontinence, weakened pelvic-floor muscles or bladder and bowel control problems, and for those looking for better core stability, sexual wellness or firmer, lifted buttocks. Because there is no need for active participation, it suits people who find pelvic-floor exercises difficult to do regularly.

Who should not have it

EM-Thera is a safe and non-invasive treatment, but it is not suitable for people with the following conditions:

  • Metal implants or electronic devices: pacemakers, defibrillators or implanted neurostimulators; metallic implants in the treatment area (such as hip replacements, screws or plates).

  • Pregnancy and the postpartum period: pregnant women should avoid treatment because of the electromagnetic exposure. If you have recently given birth, talk to your doctor before starting sessions.

  • Severe medical conditions: uncontrolled epilepsy (electromagnetic fields may trigger seizures); active cancer or tumors in the pelvic region.

  • Acute or chronic infections: urinary tract infections (UTI), which should be fully treated before using EM-Thera; pelvic inflammatory disease (PID), as active inflammation may worsen with treatment.

  • Severe cardiovascular conditions: severe heart disease or recent heart surgery; uncontrolled high blood pressure.

  • Menstruation and abnormal bleeding: EM-Thera may increase blood flow, so it is not recommended during heavy menstruation or for patients with unexplained vaginal bleeding.

  • Hernias or recent surgery: untreated hernias in the pelvic or abdominal region; recent pelvic or abdominal surgery (full healing is needed before treatment).

  • Neuromuscular disorders: severe nerve damage or neuromuscular diseases affecting the pelvic floor.

The treatment

Each session takes 30 minutes.

Step 1: Preparation

  • Empty your bladder before the session. This reduces the risk of a urinary tract infection (UTI), which is rare but can occur if the bladder is full.

  • Wear comfortable clothing, as you stay fully clothed throughout the treatment.

Step 2: Sitting on the chair

  • You are seated comfortably on the EM-Thera chair in the correct posture for optimal muscle stimulation.

  • The chair's position may be adjusted slightly to target the pelvic-floor muscles effectively.

Step 3: Treatment activation

  • The chair uses HIFEM technology to stimulate deep contractions of the pelvic and gluteal muscles.

  • The 30-minute session produces around 30,000 supramaximal contractions, equivalent to 8 hours of Kegel exercises.

  • The intensity is increased gradually for comfort and effectiveness.

Step 4: Relax and let the technology work

  • There is no need for active participation: simply relax while the electromagnetic pulses strengthen your muscles.

  • You may feel intense but painless contractions, similar to doing pelvic-floor exercises.

How many sessions

The right frequency depends on your treatment goals and individual condition. As a general guide:

  • Initial phase: 2 sessions per week, for a total of 6–8 sessions for optimal results. Most patients start to notice improvements after 3–4 sessions.

  • Maintenance: after the initial course, a monthly maintenance session is recommended to sustain muscle strength and long-term benefits.

  • For faster results: some patients choose more frequent sessions, up to 3 times per week, if their doctor recommends it.

The number of sessions is always set by your doctor after an in-person assessment, and several treatments can be combined on the same day, as your doctor advises.

Before and aftercare

  • Empty your bladder before and after each session to minimize the rare risk of a UTI.

  • There is no downtime or recovery: you can resume your daily activities immediately.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to undress?

No. You stay fully clothed for the whole treatment, so wear something comfortable.

What does it feel like?

You may feel intense but painless contractions, similar to doing pelvic-floor exercises. The intensity is adjusted gradually so that it stays comfortable.

How does one session compare with Kegel exercises?

A 30-minute session produces approximately 30,000 muscle contractions, which is equivalent to 8 hours of Kegel exercises.

How soon will I notice a difference?

Most patients start to notice improvements after 3–4 sessions, with a full initial course of 6–8 sessions at 2 sessions per week.

Is there any downtime?

No. You can go back to your normal activities straight away.

Can I have it during my period?

It is not recommended during heavy menstruation, because EM-Thera may increase blood flow.
